First Generation

The Ford Escape was the product of a collaboration between Ford and Mazda, released in the year 2000 for the 2001 model year. It was designed with a unibody frame and car-like chassis for maneuverability and a smooth ride, but with a fully independent suspension and a locking center differential to handle gentle off-roading situations and larger loads. The Escape offered a 2.0L Setec engine, a 2.3L DuraTec engine, and a 3.0L DuraTec V6 engine. Five trim levels included features like heated seats, satellite radio, power sunroof, and a unique in-vehicle navigation system. To be more environmentally sound, the Escape was also available in a hybrid option that incorporated recycled materials for upholstery.

Second Generation

The second generation of the Ford Escape debuted in 2007, and was redesigned to compete with other new compact SUVs. The Escape sported cleaner lines, a new grille, larger headlamps, and a redesigned interior with a brand-new navigation system. It was also one of the first vehicles to include the pull-drift steering compensation system, which was made possible by the new Electric Power Steering system. This Escape used a 2.5L DuraTec engine that produced 171 hp, as well as a redesigned 3.0L DuraTec engine that produced 240 hp.

Third Generation

The third generation of the Escape was introduced in 2012 for the 2013 model year with a complete redesign. It was based on the European compact Ford Kuga, which meant the Escape had a longer wheelbase and a wider stance for more interior room. Ford also began to use higher quality materials, and added technology like the MyFord Touch electronics interface and a hands-free power liftgate. The new engine was a turbocharged 1.6L engine that produced 178 hp and got up to 33 mpg highway.

Ford Focus Named World’s Best Selling Car in 2012

2013 Ford Focus

2013 Ford Focus

Ladies and Gentlemen, Terry’s Ford is proud to present?the best selling car in the world! The Ford Focus took the top spot over the #2 Toyota Corolla for the second year in a row, and it shows no signs of getting complacent. While the 2011 Focus’s sales were certainly impressive at 879,914 worldwide, they couldn’t hold a candle to the 2012 model, which sold an incredible 1,020,410. Let’s take a closer look at how all this success came to be.

An International Success Story

While the Focus did well in its native United States as expected, it also made significant gains in China. It’s estimated that 1 in 4 Focuses sold in 2012 were sold to Chinese drivers. The global success of the Focus and other Ford models is widely attributed to Ford’s current ?One Ford? strategy, which aims to sell and market cars with the same specs and the same names across international markets.

The 2013 Focus

Although Ford’s successful marketing strategy surely has a lot to do with the Focus’s international success, we think that the most compelling reason to buy a Focus is the car itself?and the new 2013 Ford Focus has more to offer than ever:

  • 7 Diverse models, including 2 hatchback options, an innovative electric sedan, and the high-performance Focus ST.
  • Convenient standard features including keyless entry, power windows, locks, and mirrors, and an auxiliary MP3 jack.
  • Excellent performance in crash tests earned the Focus the highest possible ?Good? rating from the IIHS.
  • Excellent fuel economy, with the base model S sedan averaging 36 MPG on the highway.
  • 2 liter, 4-cylinder engine with choice of 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

With so many different options to choose from, there truly is a Ford Focus for everyone?just another reason why drivers the world over can’t wait to make it their own.

SUVs Are the New Family Transportation

2012 Ford Explorer

Haul the family in a 2012 Ford Explorer

While there still remains a fair selection of minivans out on the road today, there also seems to be an odd sort of stigma attached to owning one. As if as soon as you own a minivan, you have given up any amount of cool factor you may still have leftover from your pre-family days. The solution to the problem of losing your cool factor, while still being able to meet the needs of carting around your growing family, is to own a full-size SUV. It offers ample seating and storage and looks more like a truck than an overgrown station wagon. Hence, you remain stylish and practical at the same time.

Bigger Isn’t Necessarily Better

It seems like everyone in my neighborhood drives the same full-size SUV that is this generation’s version of the reliable family minivan: a black Chevy Tahoe. I have been a fan of SUVs for several years, and even owned a mid-sized one before I was ever married or had kids. But now that my family was growing, I needed a larger SUV with more storage and more seating. I caved under peer pressure and decided to test drive the Chevy Tahoe.

I have to say, I just didn’t see the mass appeal that so many other suburban families seem to have latched onto with the Tahoe. It was just so big and cumbersome that I felt like I was driving a tank, instead of a practical family vehicle down my quiet suburban streets. I felt more awkward than cool. I myself am not a very large person, and I wasn’t planning on adding more than one or two more children to my current family of 4, so why did I need such an immense vehicle? I wanted 3 rows of seats and lots of storage, but this unwieldy mass was more than I wanted or could handle on an everyday basis. Like tossing aside a clunky shoe, I moved on from the Tahoe in search of something that fit better.

The Ford Explorer is the Perfect Family Vehicle

My perfect fit was found in the form of the 2012 Ford Explorer.? It offered me everything I was looking for in a large family SUV:

  • Three rows of seating for up to seven passengers
  • Fold down seats that equate to 80 cubic feet of storage
  • 3.5L V6 engine
  • Optional turbocharged EcoBoost 2.0L four-cylinder engine for optimal fuel economy
  • Priced less than $30,000

I was also informed that the Ford Explorer was capable of towing up to 5,000 lbs., but as I don’t own a boat or a camper, I wasn’t interested in what I could pull behind my family SUV on the way to preschool.

The Best Fit For the Family

Why so many families of 5 or less drive the biggest SUVs out there, I still don’t really understand.? Maybe they caved under the peer pressure of the new American ideal of ?bigger is better? and the more you pay for something the better it is.? Maybe they feel a comfortable familiarity with having to stop at the gas station to fill up multiple times a week. In any case, I stand firm that you can find everything you need for less in the right vehicle that fits you and your family’s lifestyle.? For me, the 2012 Ford Explorer is the perfect fit.

The 2012 Mustang is the Best Car of the Year!

2012 Ford Mustang

2012 Ford Mustang

If you are looking for a Ford near Peotone, you should definitely check out the 2102 Mustang. This legendary muscle car won the 2102 Drivers? Choice Awards as the ?Best of the Year? in MotorWeeks’s annual competition. Although the Mustang has been around for a long time, the 2012 model is truly modern, yet it continues to represent its renowned heritage. According to MotorWeek, the Boss 302 won highest honors for upholding its pony car roots while still excelling in performance, power, and comfort.

Classic Mustang Power For the Modern Driver

This year, Ford reintroduced the Boss 302 model, which is a celebrated high-performance model they originally manufactured in 1969. The 2012 version pays tribute to its roots while converting it into a superlative modern sports car known for its handling and racing capabilities. Just like in the past, this model is a track-honed powerhouse, and it is as comfortable to drive as it is powerful.

A number of engine adjustments and enhancements allow this car to produce 444 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque, and several other advancements under the hood allow the Mustang to handle the ferocity. Even with all of this power, drivers can zoom around and still achieve almost 20 mpg for fuel consumption.

Exterior and Interior Features

This high-performance muscle car is available as a coupe and has a V8 engine, 19-inch wheels, specialized trim on the exterior, quad exhaust tips, superior aerodynamic features, Brembo brakes, distinct interior trim, and a suede-wrapped steering wheel. The exterior is reminiscent of the original with black accents and a bulging hood.

The interior has all of the modern and technological features that drivers anticipate, and it also pays acknowledgement to its legendary history. It comes with Sync, Ford’s voice-activated audio and communication technology, and a navigation system. Drivers also get TracKey technology, which means they get a black key for standard purposes and a red key for use on racetracks. The red key intensifies torque, increases throttle response time, and releases launch control.

How Much Can You Haul in Your Ford F-150?

Trust Terry’s Ford for a Great Ford Dealer in Illinois

2012 Ford F-150

Do You Know How Much Your F-150 Can Haul?

Are you looking for the perfect truck for towing but are sick of searching through every Ford dealer in Illinois to find the one that suits your need the best? A Ford F-150 may be a perfect choice as it is a highly dependable and reliable truck for towing. Below are some helpful tips for drivers looking to calculate just how much they can tow/haul with their new F-150.

What is a Gross Combined Weight Rating?

The GCWR is a rating calculated by the manufacturer indicating your truck’s maximum towing weight when towing a trailer. This rating is determined by adding the vehicle’s listed curb weight, allowable payload, passenger weight, and the weight of the trailer being towed by the truck. Trailer weight also includes the material on the trailer.

Why Does the GCWR Matter?

The primary reason GCWR matters is that it helps keep you and your F-150 safe. While your F-150 may have the power to tow heavier loads than your GCWR allows, it will be overburdened. An overburdened truck and trailer will be difficult to control on the road. This can also lead to mechanical problems, such as overheated engines, failed braking systems, and even blown tires.

How Can I Find the GCWR?

The GCWR on a Ford F-150 is determined by Ford and is usually printed on a label near the door frame. Open your driver side door and look for the label printed near the door latch. The GCWR should be printed here as well as various other pieces of important information for your truck. However, if your label is missing or faded, you can also search for this information from various websites, including Ford’s manufacturer page.

What if I Can’t Find It On the Label or Online?

If your label is faded and you simply can’t find your GCWR information online, you can also travel to a Ford dealership, such as Terry’s Ford, and talk to one of our fine representatives. Come down to our showroom if you are interested in purchasing a Ford F-150 or simply want to find your current truck’s GCWR. Terry’s is one of the finest dealers in Illinois, and we will be more than happy to help.

The Mustang and the Camaro Once Again Compete in Sales

Silver 2012 Ford Mustang GTThat’s right, the 2012 Mustang is that good. Although the Camaro has lead the race three times in the first four months, the Mustang has surged ahead, leading the segment in May and June. The hope is that the Mustang will beat the Camaro with regard to annual sales as Ford attempts to stop GM from claiming the top sales in the muscle car segment for a third consecutive year.

As far as specific numbers go, 10,263 Mustang coupes and convertibles claimed proud new owners in June, which is about 16 percent increase from the amount sold in June 2011.

Why is this incredible Ford sports car selling so well this year, though? Torque News claims that it’s likely due to a number of different factors. For instance, the GT500-looking front end has been applied to all 2013 models, and the increase in horsepower on the GT models, both seem to make the popular muscle car, quite difficult to resist.

Nevertheless, the Camaro has historically been a very tough opponent in the sales muscle car sales race. Since being re-imagined in 2010, the Camaro has beat the Mustang in annual sales, but the Mustang is actually a little more than 1,000 units behind the Chevrolet Camaro in annual sales.
