First Generation

The Ford Escape was the product of a collaboration between Ford and Mazda, released in the year 2000 for the 2001 model year. It was designed with a unibody frame and car-like chassis for maneuverability and a smooth ride, but with a fully independent suspension and a locking center differential to handle gentle off-roading situations and larger loads. The Escape offered a 2.0L Setec engine, a 2.3L DuraTec engine, and a 3.0L DuraTec V6 engine. Five trim levels included features like heated seats, satellite radio, power sunroof, and a unique in-vehicle navigation system. To be more environmentally sound, the Escape was also available in a hybrid option that incorporated recycled materials for upholstery.

Second Generation

The second generation of the Ford Escape debuted in 2007, and was redesigned to compete with other new compact SUVs. The Escape sported cleaner lines, a new grille, larger headlamps, and a redesigned interior with a brand-new navigation system. It was also one of the first vehicles to include the pull-drift steering compensation system, which was made possible by the new Electric Power Steering system. This Escape used a 2.5L DuraTec engine that produced 171 hp, as well as a redesigned 3.0L DuraTec engine that produced 240 hp.

Third Generation

2012 Ford Escape

The third generation of the Escape was introduced in 2012 for the 2013 model year with a complete redesign. It was based on the European compact Ford Kuga, which meant the Escape had a longer wheelbase and a wider stance for more interior room. Ford also began to use higher quality materials, and added technology like the MyFord Touch electronics interface and a hands-free power liftgate. The new engine was a turbocharged 1.6L engine that produced 178 hp and got up to 33 mpg highway.

We’ve found some thoughtful reviews from some of the most popular car reviewers on the Internet for you. See what the critics have to say about the 2016 Ford Flex!

The Car Connection Loves the Style

The Car Connection says “It’s a boxy vehicle, but in the best senses of the word…The Flex’s interior is still one of the best Ford builds.”

The 2016 Ford Flex features a sleek look for a sporty feel, designed to stand out as a family vehicle with a retro-classic shape. The spare curves and modern lines give the exterior a clean look that’s chic and cool. Inside, the bench seats are trimmed with leather and the panels feature real wood trim. The sophisticated design gives a luxurious feel to this family car–and with 155.8 cubic feet of space for passengers, there’s more than enough room to stretch out.

“The Flex doesn’t skimp on features. In its top Limited guise, it feels like a full-fledged luxury model.”

The 2016 Ford Flex makes Ford a leader in new technology, with plenty of new features that you’ll love. Standard features include a Ford MyKey system, which lets you create geofencing and speed limitations for secondary or younger drivers. The capless filling system makes it easy and safe to fill your gas tank. Choose options for connectivity such as the updated Ford Sync3 system, or a glass panoramic sunroof.

Car and Driver Hails the Performance

Car and Driver says “An entertaining subtext in the ongoing saga of the automobile is the phenomenon of a box with wheels that can dust at least two-thirds of the traffic mix at any given stoplight.”

The 2016 Ford Flex’s engines have been improved by leaps and bounds. The base 3.5L engine is a Ti-VCT with a naturally aspirated engine. It produces 287 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque, which is an improvement of 26 hp and 33 lb-ft of torque over the 2015 Flex. The upgraded 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine prodces a truly incredible 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. The Flex is built to perform, with responsive acceleration and easy steering. One performance feature you’ll love is the torque vectoring system, which helps you stay in control of your Flex when the traction is difficult by adjusting the torque and brake pressure when taking a tight curve or a corner.

2016 Ford F-150 Introduces Pro Trailer Backup Assist

2016 Ford F-150 Towing

It can be difficult to steer a trailer correctly, even for seasoned drivers. It’s always necessary to drive with care and skill when you drive with a trailer, but backing it up can be a difficult process and often confusing. It can be hard to remember which direction to steer in order to get the trailer to go the right way, and it can be a situation of trial and error to maneuver the trailer into a small space. Luckily, Ford has a new feature that makes towing a trailer just as easy as turning a knob on your dashboard. The Pro Trailer Backup Assist is in each 2016 Ford F-150 at Terry’s Ford today.

What It Is

The Pro Trailer Backup Assist uses the electric power steering of the F-150, which was added to the truck in 2011–the feature itself has been in development from Ford’s engineering department for over five years, when the power steering debuted. When you turn the Trailer Backup Assist knob, it will take control of the truck’s steering mechanism in order to make sure you back up directly into the spot you need to be in. It will also take control of the vehicle’s brake pedals and gas pedals in order to control the speed. You won’t have to do anything to back the truck into the space and make a perfect parking job!

How It Works

In order to use the Pro Trailer Backup Assist with a trailer, you’ll have to teach it how, a process that takes a little less than 10 minutes. Just measure the trailer and feed them into the computer, then stick a black and white decal in the right spot on the trailer hitch so the rearview camera can keep track of the hitch. It uses the sticker as a reference angle in order to keep control of its steering and keep the rear speed limited as the angle of the trailer changes. The system can remember up to 10 trailers, up to 33 feet long.

Towing Capacity

The 2016 Ford F-150 is built to tow everyday heavy loads. The base engine is a 2.7L EcoBoost machine, which can tow up to 8,500 lbs. when properly equipped. When you upgrade to the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine, you’ll be able to tow up to an impressive 12,200 lbs. Heavy towing loads carry a risk of the driver losing control of the load, but the Pro Trailer Backup Assist helps you stay in control of all six tons you can tow.

Ford F-150 Named 2016 Green Truck of the Year

2016 Ford F-150Green Car Journal has named the Ford F-150 its 2016 Green Truck of the Year, so Chicago and Manteno drivers who require the power of a pickup truck can still enjoy an?eco-friendly drive. Even while improving strength, the F-150 dropped up to 700 pounds during its 2015 redesign thanks to a revolutionary aluminum-alloy body, and now even more has been done to make the F-150 greener than ever without compromising when it comes to performance.

Efficient Engines

The extensive use of aluminum and high-strength steel was noted by Ron Cogan ? editor and publisher of both Green Car Journal and as a significant reason for the F-150’s status as Green Truck of the Year, but it’s the vehicle’s engines that really drew praise.

The available 2.6L EcoBoost engine makes up to 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway ? the highest EPA-estimated highway fuel economy rating of any full-size gasoline pickup. Even the 385-hp 5.0L V8 operates more efficiently than ever thanks to its available segment-exclusive compressed natural gas/propane gaseous fuel prep package.

Responsible Design

The 2016 Ford F-150 is eco-friendly right through to its core, using sustainable materials wherever possible to help reduce its environmental impact.

REPREVE fiber, constructed from recycled plastic bottles, is used for the seats to divert over 5 million plastic bottles from landfills this year. Rice hulls are used to reinforce the plastic used in the electric harness, and fuel lines are made from castor bean oil. One model even utilizes blue jean material, towels, and t-shirts.

Eco-Friendly Capability

The Ford F-150 might have been named Green Truck of the Year, but that shouldn’t lead Chicago and Manteno drivers to doubt its performance. Equip the 2.7L EcoBoost, and you’ll receive far more than best-in-class efficiency.

  • Power: The 2.7L generates up to an impressive 325 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque
  • Towing: You’ll be able to haul up to 8,500 pounds behind you.
  • Payload: Pile the truck bed high and heavy without a through ? the F-150 boasts a payload capacity of 2,210 pounds with the 2.7L engine.

The Ford F-150 Has Made the Truck Segment Eco-Friendly

Pickup trucks aren’t often noted for their environmental credentials, but the Ford F-150 has helped turn that view on its head. If you’d like to hear more, just contact Terry’s Ford of Peotone today.
