Alternative Fuel From Ford

More and more commercial industries and small business owners in Bradley are turning to alternative fuels to keep their fleets going. Alternative fuels can help you save money and produce a smaller carbon footprint. Find out about your options for alternative fuels with Terry’s Ford.

2016 Ford C-Max Hybird

What Is Alternative Fuel?

We’ve been using fossil fuels to synthesize gasoline for our cars and trucks ever since the automobile was invented. Oil runs out, and technology changes rapidly. Today, automotive scientists are creating more and more alternative fuels for our vehicles to replace the gasoline we’ve been using for decades. E85 or “flex” fuel is a mix of gasoline and ethanol, using some of the same materials found in rocket fuel. This is one of the most popular alternative fuels used today. Bio-diesel is synthesized from vegetable or animal oils and comes in different strengths and concentrations of bio-diesel to petro diesel. It can be used in most diesel engines as a replacement for diesel. Compressed natural gas, often referred to as CNG, is made from methane stored at super high pressures and is popular in large trucks.

What Are Reasons To Use Alternative Fuel?

Ford F-59 Propane AmeriPride Truck

There are many reasons to use alternative fuel in your work vehicle. Petrochemicals from car and truck emissions release carbon and other chemicals that contribute to global warming. Alternative fuels have lower emissions and a smaller carbon footprint, which reduce the growth of global warming and help to keep the planet safe. Oil is often imported at a high price from the Middle East, where most oil reserves lie. The high price of gas means it’s time to find alternatives that we can produce within the United States, keeping money in the domestic market and reducing our dependence on foreign materials. Government programs and tax incentives also exist for those who use alternative fuels, making it cost-effective for you to choose a modified engine.

Which Vehicles Use Alternative Fuel?

Ford offers a wide range of work trucks and vans that can be modified to use alternative fuel. The E-series cutaway chassis can use ethanol/E85, CNG, or a hybrid engine, while the E-series Transit Van and passenger wagon are both able to use E85 or CNG. The F-650 and F-750 chassis cabs can use bio-diesel, CNG, or a hybrid engine. The F-series Super Duty pickup and chassis cab offer your choice of E85, bio-diesel, or CNG. You can even get a stripped Ford chassis for your customization needs that can be modified to use E85 or CNG. Check back often to see which other Ford vehicles can be modified for alternative fuels.

How Does Ford Support Alternative Fuel?

We also train service technicians to work on alternative fuel engines, so you’ll get the best service possible when you need to maintain or repair your engine.

Ford Announces Four Brand-New Ford SUVs Are Coming Down the Pipe

Ford logoBreak out the blue balloons, because Ford is about to give birth to four bouncing baby SUVs.

The American automaker recently announced it will launch four brand-new SUV models within the next four years. These new sport utility vehicles will boldly go into segments of the SUV market that Ford currently has a presence in. This is all, of course, in an effort to keep pace with the growing ? and extremely lucrative ? SUV and crossover market.

The New Arrivals

We don’t yet know exactly when the new nameplates will hit or where they will be launched; they could be born under the Ford moniker or as part of Lincoln, and they could be released in North America, South America, Asia, Europe, or all four.

Ford says it has no plans to replace any existing models as these new specimens come to the road.

Consumer Boom

While Ford’s SUVs have been selling like hotcakes in recent years, the number of passenger cars being purchased in the automotive market is dwindling as consumers turn increasingly to the like-a-car-but-better attributes of crossovers and sport utility vehicles.

Part of the recent growth of the SUV market in the U.S. is being attributed to baby boomers and millennials, who have to come to favor roomy SUVs more and more over cars. SUVs are also offering consumers increasingly better gas mileage with each model year, which is attracting more and more SUV and crossover buyers.

Research conducted by Ford shows that many millennials, who have delayed starting families, start looking toward buying an SUV ? with plenty of room for forthcoming offspring ? almost as soon as that biological clock starts ticking in earnest. When millennials start planning for their families, it seems, purchasing an SUV or a crossover figures big into those plans.

Baby boomers also like their SUVs. For one thing, an SUV is easier to climb into and out of once the body starts slowing down. At the same time, the older generation reports feeling a bit spryer and younger behind the wheel of a sporty SUV.

While You Wait?

As drivers wait for the release of the new Ford SUVs, they can check out Ford’s currently available SUV models at Terry’s Ford of Peotone. Bradley and Peotone drivers can test drive these impressive SUVs by contacting or visit us today.

The Ford Ranger and Bronco Could Return Soon

Ford Ranger

Ford Ranger Concept

Chicago and Manteno, IL drivers have rightly missed the Ford Ranger and Bronco, but rumors suggest that those two remarkable vehicles may soon be back. The staff at Terry’s Ford of Peotone is just as excited for each model’s return, so here’s everything we’ve found out thus far.

A Hint From Ford

Ford has not yet confirmed any rumors, but there are still catching like wildfire thanks to the move of the C-Max and Focus from the Michigan Assembly Plant to Mexico after 2018. With their spots in Michigan becoming empty, it would be all too tempting for Ford to use the facility to bring back the sorely-missed Ranger and Bronco.

Ford Truck Communications Manager Mike Levine stated that, “Ford does not comment on speculation or future product plans.” However, The Detroit Free Press has quoted an insider as reporting that the Ford Ranger and Bronco will head to production around 2020.

A Possible Ranger and Bronco

A 2020 release would make sense since it provides the time needed for the Michigan Assembly Plant to be converted. The Ranger has been unavailable since 2011. An outstanding compact pickup, it led the pack for close to three decades. The Ford Bronco was discontinued way back in 1996, but was previously renowned as one of the first sport-utility vehicles, able to serve both on the road and across the backcountry.

The 2016 Ford F-150

Of course, Ford still offers the most revolutionary truck on the road today: the 2016 Ford F-150. This generation of the F-150 made waves last year with its military-grade aluminum-alloy body, and currently offers:

  • Four Engines: Including 385 hp 387 lb-ft of torque from a 5.0L Ti-VCT V8.
  • Incredible Capability: Best-in-class towing of up to 12,200 pounds and best-in-class payload of up to 3,270 pounds.
  • Class-Exclusive Technology: Including the BoxLink system, Pro Trailer Backup Assist, and SYNC3 multimedia system.
  • 31 Safety Innovations: Making it the safest F-150 of all time.

New Ford Edge Models on the Horizon

2015 Ford Edge

2015 Ford Edge

Chicago and Manteno drivers can’t stop talking about the new Ford Edge models to be unveiled at this year’s SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show. The aftermarket expo will showcase models in all shapes and sizes, but, even among such stiff competition, the new?Ford Edge models have drawn all the attention.

The Sharper Edge

Ford has relented to public demand by giving us a glimpse of the new Edge models. Three takes on the renowned crossover will be shown, each one giving the Edge Sport a whole new character:

  • The Tjin: The Tjin will catch your eye with ease thanks to the Axalta Clipper blue paint job, and the exterior goes further by boasting LightWurkz headlights, 22-inch modular wheels with Falken tires, and a Magnaflow exhaust. Inside, you’ll find a custom Alea Leather CT interior, and performance is maximized with a new intercooler, Baer brakes, and Air Lift air suspension.
  • The Ignition: A bold red and black paint job hints at the Mustang-like performance that the Ignition can offer. With a Webasto Thermo Top Evo engine pre-heater, JMS BoostMAX boost controller, JMS PedalMAX throttle enhancer, SCT Performance ECU calibration, and a MRT Performance axle-back exhaust, it will shatter your expectations again and again.
  • The Vaccar: Painted in silver with orange accents, the Vaccar stands on 22-inch wheels with Continental tires, and it enjoys a smooth ride thanks to air suspension. Chicago and Manteno drivers would find a completely retrimmed interior once inside.

The Foundation

Of course, these new Ford Edge models had a strong foundation to work from: the stunning 2015 Ford Edge. This vehicle was engineered from top to bottom to provide Chicago and Manteno drivers with a bold new design and expectation-breaking performance.

The model draws titanic power from one of three available engines ? including the celebrated 315-hp 2.7L EcoBoost V6 ? while offering some of the most innovative automotive technology currently available, such as:

  • Front 180-Degree Camera: Lets you see around corners with a front 180-degree camera.
  • Active Park Assist: Helps guide the vehicle into parking spaces.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control: Automatically adjusts speed to account for the distance between your Edge and the vehicle ahead.

The New Ford Edge Models Have Defied Industry Expectations

These fresh takes on the popular 2015 Ford Edge are stunning to behold, so we can’t wait to see more. For more information ? or to arrange a test-drive of the 2015 Edge ? contact Terry’s Ford of Peotone today.

Could a New Ford Ranger be Coming to America?

FordChicago and Manteno drivers could possible look forward to a new Ford Ranger in the future, which would be the first new model since December 2011. Ford will move Focus and C-Max production to its Michigan Assembly Plant in 2018, and they are reportedly looking for other products to build at the facility.

The Future of the Ford Ranger

According to a report from The Detroit News, Ford is thinking very hard about which model would be ideal to produce at the Michigan Assembly Plant, and a new Ford Ranger is high on the list. Both the UAW and Ford’s board of directors would need to agree, so a decision is far from made, but the idea is certainly in the air.?The last Ranger was built at the end of 2011 in the now-closed Twin Cities Assembly Plant in St. Paul, MN. The model has been sorely missed, and we have a feeling that Chicago and Manteno drivers would strongly appreciate its return.

A New Ford Ranger

Ford currently produces the Ranger for 180 global markets, but it’s a whole different breed from the vehicle which American drivers know and love, with a longer wheelbase, bulkier design, and additional configurations.?Ford has indicated that any new Ford Ranger built for the U.S. market would need to stand out as separate from such vehicles. As one company executive noted: “We think we could sell a compact truck that’s more like the size of the old Ranger, that gets six or eight more miles per gallon [than a fullsize truck], is $5,000 or $6,000 less, and that we could build in the U.S.?

The 2015 Ford F-150

Of course, any future Ranger will have to be distinct from the phenomenally popular F-150 lineup if it is going to have a chance to succeed. The 2015 Ford F-150 turned heads with its innovative aluminum-alloy body and high-strength steel frame, which created a stronger yet lighter vehicle.?With four engines available, Chicago and Manteno drivers can enjoy any performance preference. From the highest EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of any gas-powered, light-duty pickup with the 2.7L EcoBoost right up to a best-in-class maximum payload rating of 3,300 pounds with the 385-hp 5.0L V8 engine, the F-150 lineup has a truck for you.

Ford Earns a Record Profit in Second Quarter

2015 Ford F-150At Terry’s Ford of Peotone, we’re delighted to report that Ford really swooped in on automotive industry profits for the April-through-June quarter, earning a record $1.3 billion worldwide profit. It’s the best quarter Ford’s seen in three years, and Wall Street investors happily watched shares briefly rise above $18 for the first time since May 2002; they’ve since settled at $17.84, up six cents from Wednesday.

Ford profited in every region of the globe save South America, due to the volatility of Brazil and Argentina’s struggling economies. Its operating margin in North America, however, reached 11.6%, among the highest in the industry. After taking over for Alan Mulally on July 1, it’s a strong and enviable way for CEO Mark Fields to begin his first month piloting the auto giant.

The Successful Ford F-150

Chief Financial Officer Bob Shanks credits the great success of this quarter to lower costs for commodities and raw materials such as steel, and the rising sales of popular models like the Ford F-150.

In many ways, the upcoming 2015 Ford F-150 will actually encapsulate what seems to be Ford’s business model ? that is, finding innovative ways to make state-of-the-art vehicles based on design simplicity and superior performance. The 2015 F-150 features a new high-strength steel frame and aluminum-alloy body, proving incredibly durable on the one hand, and much more efficient due to its lightness on the other. The 2015 F-150 is fully 700 pounds lighter than its predecessor.

What’s Next for Ford?

Over the next five months, Ford will retool two assembly plants for construction of the aluminum body of the 2015 Ford F-150. Also, Ford plans to introduce 23 new models worldwide, with 16 in the U.S. In general, CEO Mark Fields describes the future this way: ?My message to our team internally and now externally is one of continuity, but also acceleration of our plan.?

The future looks bright for the Blue Oval, and all of us at Terry’s Ford of Peotone are excited. Visit our dealership or call us at 888-832-3250 to learn more about the upcoming 2015 Ford F-150.

Ford Wins Third Straight International Engine of the Year Award

2014 FiestaAutomakers work hard to differentiate themselves. They build distinctive body designs, create new cabin technologies, and put their cars through exotic crash tests to prove how safe they are. But in the end, no feature matters more than the engine. Regardless of whether you are looking for speed, fuel economy, or longevity, the engine is the powerplant of your car, and without it your vehicle is just an expensive living room set.

We are pleased to announce that Ford recently won the International Engine of the Year award, beating out major automakers from around the world as diverse as Mercedes and Tesla. What is even more impressive is that this is the third year in a row that Ford has taken home the prize. It’s one thing to have a year of success ? it’s another thing entirely to continue this track record of excellence for years in a row.

The winning motor was the Ford 1.0L EcoBoost. And the fact that it is a smaller engine only confirms how well-made it really is. It says a lot when a tiny motor like this wins out over motors with more cylinders and larger displacement. Speed and power are important, but any engineering expert will tell you that it’s easy to build an engine that can rip up the pavement. Building one that is efficient, reliable, and perfectly calibrated while still performing in any scenario is a lot tougher.

This Ford engine can produce 123 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. It has powered European Ford models for years, but the 2014 Ford Fiesta is currently the only American model to feature it. The Fiesta got a lot of praise when it was first released for standing out in the crowded subcompact class, and a lot of that had to do with the engine. In addition to winning the overall award, the 1.0L EcoBoost was named best engine in the sub-1.0L category.

We could go into all the minute details of what makes this little engine so impressive, but to truly appreciate it, you need to experience it from behind the wheel. Visit Terry’s Ford of Peotone to take the Ford Fiesta for a test drive, and find out why a panel of 82 jurors selected it as the best engine available anywhere in the world.

Ford’s Obstacle Avoidance System Helps Prevent Collisions

driving wheel dashboardFord is known for developing innovative safety features to keep occupants as protected as possible in the event of a collision. Now, the automaker is working on technology to help make automobile accidents a thing of the past. Ford’s Obstacle Avoidance System is designed to control both steering and braking to assist a vehicle in avoiding a hazard. This kind of self-driving technology has the potential to drastically change the transportation industry.

Basics of the Obstacle Avoidance System

Ultrasonic sensors, radar, and a camera are all used to scan up to 200 meters ahead of a vehicle. On the additional built-in display, a warning sign as well as a chime will sound if a hazard is detected. If a driver does not react to the waring signs provided by the Obstacle Avoidance System, vehicle will automatically brake and look for a gap in traffic where the vehicle can steer to avoid a crash. Currently the system has been tested at speeds of up to 38 mph.

Ford has stated that in tests done by researchers in Germany, fewer than one third of drivers that are involved in rear-end crashes attempt to steer before the collision. The Obstacle Avoidance System was created as part of a research project and was presented using a Ford Focus in Lommel, Belgium.

Previous Safety Advances

Before the development of the Obstacle Avoidance System, Ford had offering several other groundbreaking features to help prevent a crash. Last year, Lane Keeping Alert was released. This feature vibrates the wheel when it senses that a vehicle is veering out of its lane without using a turn signal.

There is also the Active City Stop feature that applies the brakes if an object is detected in front of the car. However, Active City Stop is only effective if the object detected is not moving or is going less than 19 mph more than the car.

If you would like to know more about Ford’s Obstacle Avoidance System or are interested in experiencing other features like Lane Keeping Alert or Active City Stop for yourself, be sure to stop by Terry’s Ford of Peotone. We look forward to seeing you soon!
